More about Sam

I view design as a fundamental practice in noticing. My work is an attempt to curate experiences that move beyond mere pleasure, aiming instead to facilitate choices that enhance a person's life (however subtle that intervention may be). Whether I am considering the ergonomics of an industrial tool or the light in a hallway, I am interested in how these physical details dictate the logic and quality of our conscious experience.

For the past six years, I have served as the Lead Designer at Sudio. My role has been to manage the transition of dozens of products from first principles to global mass production—a process that requires a constant switch between the epistemic (the technical and logistical truth) and the phenomenal (the sensory experience). This inquiry into how we live and make has extended to the TEDx stage and into my design writing, which was previously ranked #35 globally on the Substack design leaderboard.

I founded Onni as a laboratory for these ideas. It began with Brasserie Onni, a restaurant that served as an experiment into my combined passions for food, light, materiality, ethical business practices, and has evolved into a wider studio practice built on the values of honesty, simplicity, and care.

I hold an MFA from Lund University and am currently based in Stockholm. I am interested in the middle space where technical rigor meets a refined aesthetic point of view. If you are building something that requires this level of attention, I would welcome the conversation.
